- Darbar Arts Culture Heritage Trust Set up in 2005 with the aim of increasing accessibility to south Asia’s rich musical culture and develop UK musicians in the genre of Indian classical music, Darbar curates the Darbar Festival, the largest annual gathering of Indian classical musicians in Britain. BBC Radio 3 said is “a place where everyone expects and gets the highest quality performances of Indian classical music.” Songlines world music magazine says the Festival is the “UK’s most important celebration of South Asian classical music.” Aside from presenting some of the finest musicians from across the Indian classical music spectrum, the festival also provides opportunities for the best UK artists to perform at the Festival. Despite its youth, the Festival which takes place at London’s Kings Place in Easter every year, has reshaped Britain’s Indian classical music scene. “If Britain has ever witnessed a more ambitious assemblage of South Asian music, it has bypassed my historian mind and antennae.” FRoots, June 2009. (Ken Hunt, veteran arts journalist) Alongside the public facing work, Darbar organises intensive music retreats aimed at the most promising UK artists in Indian classical music. In 2009, it begun organising grassroots music classes in Indian classical music for young people in the East Midlands area. Through this work, Darbar aims to promote greater understanding between Britain’s diverse populations.

Rakhi Sood has kept her burning passion for the performing arts since an early age. She studied the performing arts as well as achieving professional qualifications in both the classical dance style of Kathak and the art of Sitar playing.
